People in Kashmir brave cross border fire to join voter awareness camp ahead of assembly polls

Kathua, Nov 04 (ANI): Despite continuous ceasefire violations from across the border and devastating floods in the recent past, residents of Jammu and Kashmir thronged the Voter Awareness Camp with great enthusiasm to express their faith in Indian democracy. The people of Hiranagar town in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, participated in the camp in great numbers to be aware of the electoral process of the coming assembly elections in the state. The camp was organised at a government school in the town. The participants of the camp said it is important to strengthen democracy in Kashmir. The assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be held between November 21 and December 20. To ensure a larger participation in assembly election in border areas, the District Election Officer, Kathua, Shaheed Iqbal organised the camp under the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) at Marheen village to make people aware of the need to exercise their franchise. Imphal, Nov 4 (ANI): In what seems to be a unique clean up exercise, state police of Manipur set fire to a bounty worth of large amount of drugs seized from various parts of capital Imphal. Police trucks arrived at an open field in the Lilong Pan Ahanbi area in the state capital and unloaded huge packages containing narcotics that had been seized from various police stations in Imphal between 2012 and 2013. The police officer who headed the disposal, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Range-IV, Imphal, Kh. Chandramani Singh said that the illegal narcotics were worth more than 4.5 crore. Srinagar, Nov 01 (ANI): The government officials of Jammu and Kashmir geared up on Saturday (November 01) to shift state capital from Srinagar to Jammu city for winter season. The bi-annual practice of shifting the 'Darbar' (Secretariat) between the two capital cities of the state dates back to the 19th century. It is estimated the whole exercise of relocating offices costs the government crores of rupees every year. The civil secretariat will open in Jammu on November 05.
