Mushroom cultivation gains popularity as an alternative farming option in the Northeast

Tripura, Nov 09 (ANI): Climatic conditions in India, especially the Northeastern region, are favourable for natural occurance of mushrooms. And, realizing the potential of this non-traditional cash-crop, many people in the region are shifting their attention towards mushroom cultivation. The Ministry of Rural Development runs a special scheme on mushroom farming, which motivates many farmers to adopt this alternative form of farming. Meet Nilotpal Sinha, a teacher turned entrepreneur who runs "Vivekananda Mushroom centre" at South Hurua in North Tripura. Started mushroom farming in 2003 in a small area, today his centre produces 6 kg of crop everyday. Sinha earns Rs. 25,000 to 30,000 in a month by producing milky and oyster mushrooms. Mushroom consumption in India is comparatively low, but 55 per cent of the households consume mushrooms in their daily diet. Nov 9, 2014

Laxmikant Parsekar sworn in as Goa Chief Minister

Panaji, Nov 09 (ANI): Former Goa Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has been sworn in as the state's next Chief Minister after Manohar Parrikar. Parsekar took oath as the chief minister of the state and pledged to work for the welfare of the state and abide by the norms and duties ensued on him. He was administered oath by state Governor Mridula Sinha at Raj Bhawan in Panaji. Parsekar was earlier chosen unanimously as the chief ministerial candidate after a legislature party meeting. Manohar Parrikar, who is expected to become the next Defence Minister of the country, earlier resigned as Goa Chief Minister. With Parrikar's resignation, the entire state cabinet comprising 12 ministers was dissolved and the fresh cabinet also took oath along with the new chief minister. Nov 8, 2014

Goa CM Manohar Parrikar tenders his resignation

New Delhi, Nov 08 (ANI): Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has tendered his resignation to take up the post of Union defence minister on Sunday. Parrikar faxed his resignation to Goa governor Mridula Sinha. Sinha is out of station and is likely to arrive in the state in the afternoon in time for the swearing-in ceremony of the new chief minister scheduled at 4:00 PM. The BJP legislative committee is set to meet at noon to decide on the new Goa chief minister and the new leader will be elected at 4:00 in the evening. Parrikar is scheduled to go to Delhi on Saturday evening after the new chief minister takes over the charge. Parrikar will also file his nomination on Monday for Rajya Sabha seat from Lucknow.
