Tokyo, Sep 01 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met Japan's Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, in Tokyo to discuss bilateral and multilateral issues. Modi, on his first major foreign visit to Tokyo, after taking up the post as the prime minister of India, arrived on Saturday for a five-day trip aimed at capitalising on a personal affinity with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to bolster security and business ties in the face of an assertive China. Japan wants explicit guarantees from India, which has not signed the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, to limit atomic tests and allow closer inspection of its facilities to ensure that spent fuel is not used to make bombs. New Delhi, Aug 30 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on his way to Japan on Saturday for a five-day trip, hoping to win Japanese backing for a nuclear energy pact and lure investment to help kick-start its economy. Accoring to experts, getting a nuclear deal will be Modi's top priority during the visit. Defence expert Uday Bhaskar, however said that Modi will have to first address Japan's concern about nuclear proliferation. Diu, Aug 30 (ANI): Family of an Indian fisherman, who died in Pakistani jail, mourned his death in Diu town of Union Territory Daman and Diu. The family came to know about the tragedy after receiving a letter from Pakistani government that however, didn't mention the cause of death. The family urged the Pakistani government to release his brothers, who were also arrested along with him. Nuclear-armed neighbours share a vast un-demarcated coastal border and officials say fishermen on both sides ignore rules in search of fish and frequently stray into other country and end up spending years in their jails. Traders in Kashmir demand boost in cross-border trade with Pakistan

Poonch, Aug 30 (ANI): Traders in Jammu and Kashmir called for increase in cross-border trade between New Delhi and Islamabad. At present, the cross-border trade stands at 850 crore rupees. The two nuclear-armed countries have fought two wars over Kashmir but had sought to ease access and commerce in a region at the heart of more than 60 years of hostility. An approved list of items is traded between both the countries. At present, this list includes 21 items but traders are looking to raise the number of products. The most widely exported crops from the Indian side are bananas, red chili, cumin and tamarind while imports from the Pakistani side include dry fruit and mangoes. Both sides hope closer integration of Pakistan with India's giant economy would help lay the ground for a lowering of political tensions between them. Aug 30, 2014

Ceasefire violation in Kashmir post flag meeting appalls villagers

Akhnoor, Aug 28 (ANI): Ceasefire violation post the Indo-Pak flag meeting in Akhnoor district in Jammu and Kashmir appalled and angered the villagers. Pakistani Rangers and paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) held the first flag meeting on August 27 since the multiple ceasefire violations by nuclear-armed Pakistan. The meeting was held at the Nikowal Border Outpost in the district. Reportedly, hours after the meeting, Pakistan Rangers started firing late night and violated the ceasefire again early morning at around 4 am. Villagers lamented living under constant threat to life amid continuous ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops along the international border. A local, Manjeet Singh, expressed his anguish of dealing with ceasefire violation everyday. Arun Jaitley commissions INS Kamorta

Vishakhapatnam, Aug 23 (ANI): Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday commissioned India's first indigenously-built stealth anti-submarine warfare INS Kamorta at naval dockyard in Vishakhapatnam. Jaitley also received the guard of honour at the event. The warship has been built by the state-owned Gardenreach Shipbuilders in Kolkata and is the first vessel in the Navy whose all weapon systems are manufactured indigenously.
