RBI governor emphasizes on financial inclusions to reduce corruption

Mumbai, Aug 14 (ANI): RBI Chief, Raghuram Rajan, vouched for financial inclusion of the poor, in a bid to reduce corruption and boost the developing economy. Speaking at an Independence Day Literature event in Mumbai, Rajan said that India's economy has improved substantially since Independence, but it still lags behind some other countries, such as South Korea, which got their independence even later. He added that direct cash transfers to the poor would help breaking the cycle of dependency. The chief suggested ways to transfer cash by the way of opening bank accounts and transferring government subsidies to those accounts. Aug 14, 2014

Finance minister terms parliamentarian award as peer recognition

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee recently conferred the outstanding parliamentarian awards to three veteran leaders. India's Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Congress leader Karan Singh and regional party Janta Dal-United chief Sharad Yadav were honoured with the awards for the years 2010, 2011 and 2012, respectively. At a function organised by the Indian Parliamentary Group, President Mukherjee presented the awards to Jaitley, Singh and Yadav, while all the three turned very nostalgic about the past. Going down the memory lane, Jaitley said when he looks back it seems that he has come a long way. Meanwhile, Congress leader Karan Singh recalled his earliest association with the parliament, which dates back to 1950s. Muzaffarnagar organizes marathon to spread communal harmony

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 13 (ANI): In a bid to unite people from all faiths in riot-hit Muzaffarnagar city of Uttar Pradesh, a marathon was organised on Tuesday to spread the message of peace and communal harmony. Muzaffarnagar is a flashpoint in Uttar Pradesh in which some 60 people were killed in Hindu-Muslim riots last year. The marathon saw participation of around 4,000 children, along with journalists, police officials, and members of various women and civil society organisations. The event concluded with a cultural function featuring Independence Day-themed programmes. The five-kilometre marathon is an annual event and was organised for the third time in a row. National flag business booms in Tamil Nadu ahead of Independence Day

Coimbatore, Aug 12 (ANI): Several days ahead of the 68th Independence Day celebrations in India, the national flag business booms in Coimbatore city of Tamil Nadu. Over two lakh cotton flags were produced in the state last year and this year in wake of the new government, the Indian flag manufacturers have produced over three lakh tri coloured flags. The flag printers in Coimbatore claim that they produce around 5000 flags daily and this year they are working day and night and hence their labour also has doubled. Bangalore, Aug 12 (ANI): A floral replica of the royal Mysore palace at the Independence Day Flower Show in Bangalore city left visitors mesmerised with its beauty and grandeur. Lal Bagh palace holds the Republic Day Flower show in January and the Independence Day Flower Show in August every year. The Independence Day Flower Show in Bangalore is currently the 200th edition, which was inaugurated by the state chief, Siddaramaiah and will continue till August 17. The major attraction this year is a replica of the royal Mysore Palace and the Dassara procession made of three hundred thousand roses.
