It Happens: Indians soak in devotion at birth place of Lord Krishna

Mathura, August 22 (ANI): Thousands of devotees soaked in devotion thronged birthplace of Lord Krishna in Uttar Pradesh on Monday to celebrate his birth anniversary. Chanting hymns and carrying religious offerings, people flocked temples dedicated to the Hindu god in Mathura to mark the festival of Janamashtmi with pageantry. The priests performed rituals in the temples to mark 5240th birthday of Lord Krishna. A devotee, Nishi Khurana, said she was elated to visit Mathura to be a part of the celebration. Lord Krishna is regarded as the eighth incarnation of the Hindu deity 'Vishnu', the Preserver of the Universe. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Krishna was born at the midnight hour on this day. Another devotee, Goldy Khurana, said Mathura reverberated with a different kind of enthusiasm when it came to celebrate Janamashtmi. According to the Hindu calendar, Janmashtami is observed on the Ashtami Tithi, which is the eighth day of the month of Bhadrapada (sixth month of the Hindu calendar year) in the Hindu almanac. Mumbai, August 20 (ANI): The audiences were in for a visual treat as Bollywood divas Shilpa Shetty and Sushmita Sen walked the ramp in their sensuous outfits on the opening day of Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) in India's showbiz capital Mumbai. Former Miss Universe, Sen, looked stunning in a black gown with a transparent back as the showstopper for designer, Aman Aggarwal. Sen credited her exotic appearance to Aggarwal and said she felt sexy and eloquent in the dress. Aggarwal's collection portrayed tribal artifacts and incorporated ethnic weaving techniques, stripped tattoos and structured jewelry. On the other hand, Shilpa Shetty, looked elegant in a black slinky gown with huge prints and a draped dupatta. She grooved on the ramp with other models for fashion designer Masaba Gupta's collection themed 'wanderess'. The theme 'wanderess' is inspired by renowned poet Roman Payne's character Saskia. Mumbai, Aug 18 (ANI): Hundreds of devotees on Monday celebrated Gokulashtami also named Janmashtami, the birth of Lord Krishna, and participated in the event of _Dahi Handi_ and formed human pyramid to the tunes of Govinda Aalare Aala in Mumbai city of Maharashtra. The event involves creating a human pyramid and breaking the Handi that contains curd. Devotees were heard chanting Hare Krishna, Hare Rama. This time the organisers used the technique of rock climbing to prevent any untoward incident. It is believed that Lord Krishna was born at the midnight hours.
