Minor explosion outside Farashkhana Police Station in Pune, 2 injured

Pune, July 10 (ANI): Two persons have been injured in a minor explosion which took place outside a Police Station in Pune on Thursday. The blast occurred at a parking lot near the Farshkhana police station, 500 km away from a famous Ganapati temple. ATS sources said it was a low intensity blast and said the reason for the explosion was yet to be ascertained. A police team and a bomb squad reached the spot, which was cordoned off. Tension is prevailing in Kanth village after BJP workers clashed with police and Samajwadi Party members over removal of a loudspeaker from a temple by the administration decision. The detention of BJP leaders, workers and supporters while on their way to attend a huge religious gathering, 'Mahapanchayat', in Moradabad to protest the decision, led to skirmish with police and the SP workers. A District Magistrate and police officials were injured in stone-pelting by protesters. Police resorted to rounds of firing to control the unruly mob. Guwahati, June 27 (ANI): Amid the clash of cymbals and blowing of conch shells, saffron-robed Hindu holy men performed mystic rituals to celebrate the annual fertility festival at the revered shrine of Goddess Kamakhya in the northeastern Indian city of Guwahati. The four-day festival also known as 'Ambubachi fair', which began on June 22, is held with the grand arrival of monsoon in Assam. As per Hindu mythology, Kamakhya is one of the most mystical religious sites in India. The festival is based on the belief that during this period the goddess goes through her annual menstrual cycle - symbolizing fertility. The temple has no image of the goddess but a natural underground stream which emanates from a fissure in a rock that symbolizes Lord Shiva's wife Sati. During the time of the festival the water turns red due to iron oxidation resembling menstrual fluids. The main gate of the temple remains closed for the visitors for three days and devotees wait outside the temple till the fourth day, when the temple is opened. The festival is also a major draw for the practitioners of occult with a large number of pot smoking ascetics descending on the shrine, lending a mystic aura to the whole atmosphere. Varanasi, June 26 (ANI): Two young Indian engineering students have designed a jeans fitted with a walkie-talkie in an attempt to prevent rapes and other crimes against women. The jeans, the brainchild of Diksha Pathak and Anjali Srivastava, will alert the police or a guardian by a mere press of a button in case a woman senses any threat. Pathak and Srivastava, who hail from the temple town Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh where crimes against women have been rising, created the device in order to help women safeguard themselves if faced with an untoward situation. New Delhi, June 24 (ANI): A group of 15 Indian workers returned from strife-torn Iraq at New Delhi airport on Tuesday as fighters from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) advanced to capital Baghdad. About 10,000 Indian nationals work in Iraq, mostly in areas unaffected by the fighting between the ISIL and the national army. About 100 Indian workers are trapped in areas overrun by ISIL. Indian worker, Mohammad Isbal Ansari, said he did not receive any help either from Indian government nor the company he was working for. Forty Indian construction workers have been kidnapped in Iraq's second largest city of Mosul, which fell to Sunni insurgents last week. No ransom demand has been received.
