National Herald Case: HC exempts Sonia and Rahul from appearing in Court till Aug 13

New Delhi, Aug 06 (ANI): Congress leader and advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Wednesday said that the High Court has exempted Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi from appearing in the Court till August 13. Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had filed a petition alleging misappropriation of assets worth Rs 2000 crore of the National Herald newspaper. Swamy had also accused Sonia, Rahul and others of conspiring to cheat and misappropriate funds by just paying Rs 50 lakh by which Young Indian obtained the right to recover Rs 90.25 crore which the Associate Journal Limited had owed to the Congress party. Massive rescue operation underway as death toll in China Earthquake rises to at least 398

China, Aug 04 (ANI): Rescuers are racing against time to save lives after a 6.5-magnitude earthquake killed at least 398 people and injured more than 1,800 others in southwest China_s Yunnan Province. Yunnan has sent 7,000 rescuers, including a total of 5,000 army officers and soldiers, police officers and firefighters, to the quake-hit areas. At the epicenter in Longtoushan Township, Ludian County, firefighters had rescued 30 people and recovered 37 bodies from the debris on Monday. Yunnan Armed Police Corps and reserve army units have had professional earthquake rescuers on the site, trying to find anyone still alive under the ruins, with life detectors. Power was restored to some 19,000 households on Monday morning, and civil affairs authorities have sent 2000 tents, 3000 folding beds, 3000 quilts and 3000 coats to affected areas. Aug 4, 2014

Mumbai, July 31 (ANI): U S Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker, expressed eagerness to support and partner with India to bolster mutual economic ties at en event in Mumbai. Pritzker, who arrived in India on Wednesday, attended the interactive session with industry officials that was organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Pritzker emphasised that throughout the visit, she and her team will continue to emphasise on strategic dialogue, which is a mechanism to reinvigorate, re-energize and strengthen the U.S.-India economic relationship. While addressing the interactive session, she said Unites States is ready to share their best practices and create a business climate in India that is more open for global investment. Manipuris want bollywood biopic on boxer Mary Kom to be released in the state

Manipur, July 30 (ANI): Theatres in Manipur have not screened any Hindi film since the year 2000, following the imposition of a ban by the outlawed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF). Because of this ban, cinema houses in the state may not screen a biopic on boxer M.C. Mary Kom, which is set be released in theaters across the country on September 5. The film starring Priyanka Chopra traces Mary's life from her humble roots to her achieving several world titles. Produced by well known Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film is directed by Omung Kumar. Film enthusiasts in Manipur want the film to be screened in the state.
