103 year old Sarmaya Chettri all set to practice her franchise in 2014 general elections

Jalpaiguri, March 30 (ANI): A 103-year-old Indian woman Sarmaya Chettri from Jalpaiguri in West Bengal has joined poll fervour as she is all set to cast her vote in the upcoming 2014 general elections. What makes Chhetri special is that she is among the first Indians to cast vote since 1951 when India first went to polls. Expressing her happiness for being witness to all the historic elections of India, she asked the government to arrange for her transportation that would ferry her to the polling station for exercising her franchise. Her son, who had been accompanying her to the polling stations during all elections that she had witnessed through her life span till date, spoke about the significance of casting vote. Mar 30, 2014

PM highlights Congress' achievements during Assam rally

Assam, Mar 29 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, while addressing a rally in Assam's Sivasagar on Saturday, highlighted the achievements of the Congress led UPA government in the last decade. The Prime Minister also stated that he felt privileged to have got an opportunity to serve the nation for a long duration of 10 years.
