Ousted from JD (U), Manjhi forms new party 'Hindustan Awaam Morcha'

New Delhi, March 01 (ANI): Ousted Janata Dal (United) leader and former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi floated a new party, the 'Hindustan Awaam Morcha'. According to reports, the HAM has been formed to counter the JD (U) ahead of Bihar assembly polls to be held later this year. Manjhi's supporters are said to be predominantly Mahadalits and other backward castes. Last week, the 70-year-old Manjhi had resigned from the top post in Bihar ahead of a crucial trust vote in the state assembly. While tendering his resignation to Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, he also recommended dissolution of the assembly, a suggestion that was not taken into consideration. Mar 1, 2015

AIADMK celebrates Jayalalithaa's 67th birthday in Chennai with much fanfare

Chennai, Feb 24 (ANI): AIADMK Office in Chennai witnessed grand celebration as the party chief J Jayalalithaa turned 67 on Tuesday. Party workers and members are organising a number of welfare activities to mark their leader's birthday which also includes a free medical camp. While special prayers at religious places were conducted for the former Chief Minister's acquittal in an assets case also, mass marriages and welfare activities marked the day for supporters. The party workers also cut a grand cake shaped as the number '67' and later distributed sweets to the poor. Firecrackers, dance and music marked the day at the party office as people rejoiced on the occasion. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his wishes to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on her birthday. "Birthday greetings to Jayalalithaa ji. Former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed was arrested Sunday amid suspicions that he would try to flee the island nation to avoid facing terrorism charges. According to reports, Nasheed's detention led to clashes between his supporters and law-enforcement officers.
