Agitated Sugarcane farmers protest in Uttar Pradesh

Meerut/ Muzaffarnagar/ Lucknow, Dec 02 (ANI): Agitated farmers blocked roads in various sugarcane producing districts of Uttar Pradesh demanding re-functioning of sugar mills and clearance of farmers' dues, thereby disrupting normal life. Farmers blocked key routes, including the national highway, after a cane farmer committed suicide that led to violent protest. General Secretary of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Jayant Chaudhary claimed that the agitation was a success. Farmers in Muzaffarnagar too staged protest against sugarcane mill owners for not purchasing the produce at a price fixed by the provincial government.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan releases manifesto ahead of upcoming state polls

Bhopal, Nov 16 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan promised well-connected road system, increased power generation and schemes for farmers while releasing election manifesto in Bhopal ahead of upcoming polls. Releasing the manifesto along with other leaders on Saturday, Chouhan lured voters with announcement of a slew of projects. To make sure that the electricity crises is addressed, Chouhan said that power generation will be increased by 2020. Rampur, Nov 15 (ANI): Visitors thronged the much-awaited 'Lavi Fair' (trade fair) in Rampur city of India's northern Himachal Pradesh state on Monday. This is one of the oldest trade fairs, promoting farm produce, handicrafts and handlooms. The annual trade fair was inaugurated by Chief Minister of India's Himachal Pradesh, Virbhadra Singh in Rampur with much fanfare. This four-day trade fair, which is organised in November every year, is said to be 500 years old and the provincial government also refers it to as an International Trade Fair. The four-day event is said to be a source of revenue generation for farmers and locals.

Naxals 'brainwashing' innocent farmers and spreading misinformation

Patna, Oct 31 (ANI): While the strength of Naxals has gone down considerably in recent times, they have intensified their campaign and are spreading misinformation against the government and security forces. Anand Shankar, former DGP of Bihar, believes that the Naxals brainwash innocent farmers and force them to join their ranks. Shankar added that teenagers are forcibly recruited by them and villagers are terrified about raising their voice against them. Shankar also said that there is an urgent need to formulate a well-planned strategy which makes use of latest technology to fight the Naxals. Naxalism has plagued the country for many decades. Naxals have consistently killed innocent people and security personnel. The Indian government has described Naxalism as the biggest internal security threat to the nation.
