Odisha: Police gunned down 13 Maoists

Odisha, Sep 15 (ANI): The top brass of police in Odisha revealed details of the operation that gunned down 13 Maoists, including a very high ranking Maoist leader and a woman cadre, under Kalimela in Malkangiri region of the province. A huge cache of arms and ammunition were also seized after this counter anti-insurgency operation. Briefing the media, Superintendent of Police, Malkangiri, Akhilesh Singh said that an offensive had been launched by the personnel of District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) to track down these Maoists. Kashmir observes shutdown in protest against human rights violation

Srinagar, Sep 14 (ANI): Residents of Kashmir observed shutdown on Saturday in protest against the recent incidents of violence in the state's Shopian district and repeated human rights violations, which was taking place in the province. All shops, business establishments, educational institutions in the state were shut as public transport also ceased services in the state. The shutdown call was given by Hardliner Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani to protest against human rights violations in the state. A resident, Irfan said that there was need to stop the atrocities that were being committed against the residents in the valley. Leader of Peoples Democratic Party, the main opposition in the state, Mehbooba Mufti attempted to visit Shopian on Wednesday (September 11) but was stopped from entering the district due to it being under curfew for the last few days.
