On 10 October Louis Therouxs debut film My Scientology had its general release in the UK. The documentary maker has had a long running fascination with the subject, and the film takes an in-depth and controversial look at the religion. Scientology is a relatively new religion founded by Ron Hubbard in 1954. The film is controversial as often the subject is avoided for fear of retribution by Scientologys followers. Scientology claims to offers a precise path leading to a complete and certain understanding of one’s true spiritual nature and one’s relationship to self, family, groups, mankind, all life forms, the material universe and the spiritual universe. Iraqi forces advance against Islamic State in Mosul offensive

As part of the Iraqi governments offensive on Mosul, Iraqi Kurdish military forces have started to clear several villages held by Islamic State. Some 30,000 Iraqi government forces, Kurdish Peshmerga militia and Sunni tribal fighters are expected to take part in the offence to drive up to 8,000 Islamic State militants out of Mosul. Suspension bridge collapse in Bali kills eight

Eight people, including three children, were killed and 34 injured whe a bridge connecting two small islands near the Indonesian holiday island of Bali collapsed. The bridge is the only crossing between the islands of Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan. Reports indicate that the bridge was overloaded due to a religious ceremony taking place at a nearby temple.
