US Navy tests worlds first drone-destroying laser

Meet the worlds first drone-destroying laser. It can silently strike an unmanned drone overhead at the speed of light. The Laser Weapons System (LaWS) was tested on board the USS Ponce amphibious transport ship. This electricity-powered system is charged by a small generator. While the LaWS cost $40 million, the expense per shot is just about a dollar.  The weapon is designed to destroy aircraft and small boats. It is expected to be used by U.S. Navy in combat by 2020. Jul 19, 2017
