New Delhi, Nov 17 (ANI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday credited India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru with the foresight to see the importance of secularism for a country as diverse as India. Gandhi was speaking at the two-day international conference to commemorate 125th birth anniversary of Nehru in New Delhi. Gandhi further credited Nehru with laying the foundation for India's economic emergence and said he recognised the public sector as a potent symbol of change and modernisation. Bangladesh war crime accused Mohammad Kamaruzzaman's family urge SC to review its verdict

Dhaka, Nov 11 (ANI): Family members of the Islamist leader, Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, convicted for war crimes, urged Bangladesh Supreme Court to review its verdict of upholding his death penalty. In May last year, a special war crimes tribunal found Kamaruzzaman, an assistant secretary general of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, guilty of genocide and torture of unarmed civilians during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan. The tribunal sentenced him to death. Kamaruzzaman's son, Hasan Iqbal pleaded his father's innocence and requested the court to reconsider the verdict. The tribunals have delivered death sentences for two Jamaat leaders, including its party chief and former minister, Motiur Rahman Nizami, late October this year. Nov 11, 2014

More than 6,000 police personnel and several drones with live satellite feed would patrol and guard the city so that mourners can observe the Muharram peacefully.
