New Delhi, Oct 23 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday morning left for Siachen. Modi who is scheduled to spend this Diwali with the flood-hit victims of Jammu and Kashmir, is also visiting the soldiers posted at Siachen Glacier. Before leaving, Modi gave prosperous Diwali wishes to the people. Meanwhile security was tightened in Srinagar ahead of Modi's visit. Mentally-ill women celebrate Diwali with gaiety in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 22 (ANI): Home for mentally-ill women organised a programme on the eve of Hindu festival of lights, Diwali, in Odisha. The home, 'Mission Ashra', or Mission Shelter, organized a cultural programme for the inmates in Bhubaneswar city, who have been abandoned by their families as they are mentally-ill. Women danced and burst crackers to celebrate the festival. The home houses almost 200 mentally-ill destitute women and works for their treatment and rehabilitation. It has been rescuing helpless women from streets and other places across the 15 districts in the country. Diwali is celebrated with great fervour and gaiety all over India as it marks the return of Hindu god Lord Rama to Ayodhya in northern India after he defeated Ravana, the powerful demon king of Lanka. Hundreds of the widows who live in various ashrams run by the Sulabh International participated in the celebrations for the first time this year. Diwali, the annual festival of lights will be celebrated across the country on October 23. On being asked whether they would celebrate Diwali with their families, Bijali Das, who has three children but has lived in Vrindavan for several years, said that it did not matter to her since she had devoted 3 her life to god. Firecrackers show lights up skyline of Rajkot ahead of Diwali

Rajkot, Oct 22 (ANI): Display of spectacular fireworks, to celebrate the festive spirit of Diwali, mesmerized the residents and foreigners alike in Gujarat. An audience of over 70,000 people cheered and applauded as bright, colourful fireworks lit up the night over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state. The show was held at Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Rajkot and organized by the city's civic body that spent nearly rupees 400,000 to entertain the people with a large variety of firecrackers. The brightly illuminated sky won the city's heart as children in large numbers arrived at the stadium with their parents. This year Diwali will be celebrated on October 23. The main idea behind this show was to bring smile to the faces of people belonging to poor economic strata who cannot afford to purchase expensive firecrackers during Diwali.
