Rajya Sabha passes TRAI Amendment Bill

New Delhi, July 15 (ANI): After Lok Sabha, the TRAI Amendment Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha today. The bill was passed in Lok Sabha on Monday. The Bill seeks to remove a legal hurdle in appointment of former chairman of telecom regulatory body Nripendra Misra as principal secretary to the Prime Minister. While the Congress opposed the bill, other parties like the BSP and the TMC supported it. Though the NDA government lacked numbers, it had expressed confidence on Monday that the Bill would be cleared by the Upper House too. Jul 15, 2014

New Delhi, July 14 (ANI): The TRAI Amendment Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Monday even as the Congress staged a walkout protesting against it. The BJP defended the amendment saying it is based on merits while the Congress criticised the government for showing undue haste in bringing a person specific law. Reactions come in as BJP issues whip to its MPs to support TRAI Bill in LS

New Delhi, July 11 (ANI): The TRAI Amendment Act to be presented in Lok Sabha has invited political reactions. After reports of Congress opposing the bill in Parliament, BJP had issued a whip to all its MPs to be present when the government will present the bill. Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the bill is being presented on the basis of merit and hoped that it would be passed in both houses. BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that it was an amendment which needed to be modified every six months and added that the government needed to change laws. Meanwhile CPI leader D Raja said that an ordinance needs to be replaced by the legislation. The bill has been tabled in the Lok Sabha. Jul 11, 2014
