PM Modi holds meet to review infrastructure sector progress

New Delhi, Sep 12 (ANI): Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on Friday reviewed progress of eight major infrastructure sectors in the country. The sectors included Civil Aviation, Ports and Inland Waterways, Railways, Roads, Telecom, Power, Coal, and New and Renewable Energy. The meet was a part of the regular series of reviews on infrastructure, which the prime minister takes every month. Modi stated that accelerated infrastructure development was his top priority, and also stressed the need for creating world-class infrastructure in India. The Prime Minister said initiatives undertaken by state governments as well as Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) with other countries, including SAARC countries, should also be taken into account while monitoring the progress of infrastructure sectors. Sushma Swaraj calls on Tajikistan President ahead of SCO meet

Dushanbe, Sep 12 (ANI): Union Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj called on Tajikistan President Emomalii Rahmon in the capital city of Dushanbe on Friday (September 12) ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meet. Rahmon also met key advisor of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Sartaz Aziz. The SCO, held between September 11and 12, aims to boost cooperation in three major fields of economy, security and people-to-people exchanges. India, Iran, Pakistan and Mongolia are due to become full participating members of the summit, thereby upgrading their observer member status. Sushma Swaraj arrives in Afghanistan to bolster ties

Kabul, Sep 10 (ANI): Union Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived in Afghanistan, on Wednesday in a bid to bolster ties between the two countries and review key projects that have been implemented in the region by India. Swaraj held talks with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai on crucial bilateral and regional issues, as well as on defence and security assistance from India. Swaraj also met her Afghanistani counterpart Zarar Ahmad Osmani. She is also expected to hold meeting with presidential candidates in Kabul and inaugurate the new Indian embassy. With her visit to Afghanistan, Swaraj has now visited four of the eight countries in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) since taking over the portfolio. Sep 10, 2014
