UN expects EU’s refugee flow to top 1m in 2015

Refugees and migrants are likely to keep coming to Europe at a rate of up to 5,000 per day via Turkey this winter, the United Nations said on Thursday (5 November), meaning that more than a million people will have fled to the continent this year. About 760,000 people have already crossed the Mediterranean in 2015, mainly to Greece and Italy, after fleeing wars in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as conflicts in Africa. Nov 5, 2015

Drone footage captures Syrian refugees on their journey to Greece

A drone mounted camera captured dozens of refugees taking the treacherous journey from Turkeys coastal town of Cesme to set sail to the Greek Island of Chios on inflatable dinghies. Footage released on Thursday (5 November) showed aerial shots of refugees crossing scrubland and arriving at a beach where they embark on the dinghies. Nov 5, 2015
