The audio launch event of 'Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitham', starring Sai Dharam Tej and Regina Cassandra in the leads, has been held at Shilpa Kala Vedika in Hyderabad. Mega family heroes Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, Naga Babu graced the event. People light over one lakh earthen lamps, pray for world peace

Gorakhpur, Oct 25 (ANI): Scores of Hindu devotees gathered at a river bank in Uttar Pradesh to light over one lakh earthen oil lamps and prayed for world peace and prosperity of citizens. The lighting of earthen lamps was done after Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. Devotees congregated at the Surajkund temple in Gorakhpur and prayed for brotherhood among people. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama, was believed to have rested at this temple site with his consort Sita on their way back from Lanka after defeating Ravana. The temple was illuminated with lights as earthen lamps were placed on the steps. It is a century old custom, organized with the aim to purify the atmosphere and keep the surroundings clean. Bhubaneswar, Oct 22 (ANI): Home for mentally-ill women organised a programme on the eve of Hindu festival of lights, Diwali, in Odisha. The home, 'Mission Ashra', or Mission Shelter, organized a cultural programme for the inmates in Bhubaneswar city, who have been abandoned by their families as they are mentally-ill. Women danced and burst crackers to celebrate the festival. The home houses almost 200 mentally-ill destitute women and works for their treatment and rehabilitation. It has been rescuing helpless women from streets and other places across the 15 districts in the country. Diwali is celebrated with great fervour and gaiety all over India as it marks the return of Hindu god Lord Rama to Ayodhya in northern India after he defeated Ravana, the powerful demon king of Lanka. Siliguri/ Kanpur, Oct 15 (ANI): With cheaper lighting options flooding the markets, Indian potters complain of slack in the sales of their traditional terracotta 'diyas' or earthen lamps ahead of Diwali, the festival of lights. In recent years, Chinese fairy lights and electric lamps and other similar alternatives to handmade lamps have entered Indian markets, giving fierce competition to the indigenous pottery industry. Potters in a village in Siliguri city of West Bengal complained that their sales have gone down. Repeated complaints to the village council were in vain. The potters do not receive any help from the government either. The major advantage of electric lights is that they are more durable than terracotta diyas, which may break after one use and need constant oil refills which add to their cost. Diwali, which will fall on October 23 this year, is celebrated with great fervour and gaiety all over India as it marks the return of Hindu god Lord Rama to Ayodhya after he defeated Ravana, the powerful king of Lanka.
