Jamshedpur, May 17 (ANI): A unique fan of Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit Nene celebrated diva's birthday with much pomp and show in India's Jamshedpur city in eastern province of Jharkhand. Pappu Sardar, who has been celebrating the actress' birthday for more than a decade now, cut a cake on her behalf and wished for a prosperous life as he held a small function. Dixit, who is accounted among the most accomplished actors in the Indian film industry, turned 47 today. Madhuri has charmed her fans with her most enchanting smile and amazing dancing moves. Pappu Sardar, who owns a food stall, organised a lavish party at midnight which began with a prayer session and ended with dance and jubilation on the streets. Pappu had the whole colony decorated with lights, ribbons and balloons, put many photographs of Dixit on display and prayed for her success. Many other people also joined him in the celebrations. The fans danced together to the tunes of some of the famous songs of Madhuri. The actress made her acting debut in 1984 and was a rage in the 90s by delivering one super hit after the another. At least 200 dead, several injured after coal mine explosion in Turkey

Turkey, May 14 (ANI): A fire caused by a transformer explosion at a coal mine in Western Turkey early Wednesday has left at least 200 workers dead and scores injured. Energy Ministry Taner Yildiz said 787 people had been inside the mine at Soma in Manisa province when an electrical fault triggered the blast. Rescuers worked through the night to try to reach hundreds more miners still trapped underground. Almost 363 of those trapped had been rescued. Rescue workers pumped oxygen into the mine to keep those trapped by the blaze alive, as thousands of family members and fellow workers, clamoring for information, gathered outside the town's hospital. Aurangabad, May 2 (ANI): The Tiger pair named 'Samrudhi and Siddharth' at the Siddharth Garden and Zoo of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in India's western Maharashtra province has given birth to three cubs recently, who made their first public appearance. The director at the zoo, B.S. Naikwade said the three cubs, two female and one male, were born eight weeks ago to tigress Samrudhi. The three cubs were kept in a safe place due to critical period at initial stages of their birth. The newly born cubs are the fourth generation of tigers in this zoo. Twelve years ago a pair named 'Tara and Jahangir' brought to Aurangabad district from a zoo in northern state Punjab gave birth to the pair of 'Dipti and Guddu' and the same pair had given birth to 'Samrudi and Siddharth'. Meanwhile, the zoo authorities have sent one pair of tigers each to a zoo in central city of Indore and Borivali Zoo in western Mumbai city. India holds over half of world's tiger population. According to a 2011 census report, tiger population was estimated to be around 1,700. But media reports say the Indian tiger faces threat of extinction due to various reasons including hunting, poaching and lack of genetic diversity. May 2, 2014

Srinagar, April 30 (ANI): A shutdown was observed in Kashmir on Wednesday during the seventh phase of general elections in response to a call given by hard line Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and his moderate counterpart Mirwaiz Umer Farooq. Both separatist leaders reportedly asked the people to keep away from polling booths and not to vote for any of the candidates contesting the elections.
