70 suffer injuries during unique 'Hingot' fight in Indore

Indore, Oct 25 (ANI): At least 70 people suffered injuries during the traditional 'Hingot' war in Indore in Madhya Pradesh. The age-old traditional 'Hingot' or mock fight, is fought with fireballs made of Hingot fruit between two groups acting as warriors a day after Diwali. Doctor Neha Jain, on duty at the festival ground, said people with serious injuries were admitted in hospital. Indore district authorities made elaborate arrangements for organizing the 'Hingot' fight in Gautampura town, about 55km from Indore. The fruit stuffed with explosive mixture is launched after igniting the fuse made on its end. A bamboo strip is fitted at its back for better handling and aiming just like an arrow. Oct 25, 2014

People light over one lakh earthen lamps, pray for world peace

Gorakhpur, Oct 25 (ANI): Scores of Hindu devotees gathered at a river bank in Uttar Pradesh to light over one lakh earthen oil lamps and prayed for world peace and prosperity of citizens. The lighting of earthen lamps was done after Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. Devotees congregated at the Surajkund temple in Gorakhpur and prayed for brotherhood among people. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama, was believed to have rested at this temple site with his consort Sita on their way back from Lanka after defeating Ravana. The temple was illuminated with lights as earthen lamps were placed on the steps. It is a century old custom, organized with the aim to purify the atmosphere and keep the surroundings clean.
