New Sonowal, Feb 08 (ANI): The construction of a 23km long pucca road from Gauri Chauwa under Tipabor sub-division to New Sonowal by the PWD is in full swing. There are 17 villages within this stretch, mainly engaged in agriculture. Earlier, the villagers used to face many problems in transporting goods and availing services. The construction of the road as well as 7 new bridges has come as a ray of hope for the people who are expecting their lives to improve now. The project has been allotted a budget of Rs 20 crores. The construction of the pucca road has given hope of better business to this group of students from Kherimiya village who started vegetable farming recently. Security forces to take tough action against anti-talk faction of NDFB (S) in Assam

Assam, Feb 07 (ANI): Two people, including a senior police officer and an informer, were killed and four others injured on January 28 after a police team was ambushed by cadres of NDFB (S) in Sonitpur district of Assam. The militants fired upon a police team that was returning to the local police station. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gulzar Hussain was killed in the ambush and four constables suffered bullet injuries. The injured were taken to the Tezpur Civil Hospital. A five day fair from January 9 to January 13 was organized to mark the celebration of the harvest festival. The fair serves as a platform for people to know about their culture and traditional food. Fair organizer Binita Deka said that besides providing a market, people are given fresh food items through this fair, which are often difficult to access. Some of the traditional food items that were prepared include Pitha, Tilar Laru, Sunga Pitha, Tekeli Pitha, rice cakes and coconut sweets.
