Congress releases its election manifesto in Haryana

Panchkula, Oct 1 (ANI): Congress on Wednesday released its election manifesto in Haryana for the October 15 polls and attempted to woo farmers, even as Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda promised to put the state on higher growth trajectory. The 23-page manifesto laid thrust on the sectors of agriculture and horticulture, irrigation, energy, industry, trade, commerce, FDI, health, employment, women empowerment, urban and rural development and education. The document even mentioned about construction of a separate High Court for Haryana in Chandigarh and also about resuming mining once approval is given from Environment Department. The manifesto was released at Panchkula jointly by Hooda and other Congress dignitaries.

Floods and sand deposits ruin farmer s crops in Amritsar

Amritsar, Sep 28 (ANI): Sand deposits left by the flooded river Ravi in fields leaves farmers’ crops damaged in Amritsar district of Punjab. Heavy rainfalls over-flooded the river on the border belt of Dera Baba Nanak and Ajnala sector, burring thousand acres of land. Farmers living in the area cultivate around 10,000 acres of fertile land which has been rendered useless for two to four years because of the sand deposits left by the river. A farmer Major Manmohan Singh said that his entire crop has been damaged. Reportedly, the farmers are asking for government’s help in removing the sand from their fields and provide electricity connections for tube wells so that the affected agricultural land could be made fit for cultivation.

Porbandar, Sep 27 (ANI): Porbandar BJP MP Vitthal Radadiya set an example by giving a property worth Rs 100 crore to his widowed daughter-in-law on Friday to get her remarried. Vitthal Radadiya is a BJP MP as well a farmers' leader from Porbandar. His son Kalpesh Radadiya died of cardiac arrest seven months ago, leaving behind wife Manisha and two children. Manisha's in-laws want that she led a happy life after her husband's demise and said that the wedding will set an example for the society. Manisha got wedded to Hardik Chowatiya, a friend of Vitthal Radadiya's son Lalit, in Jamkandorna town of Rajkot district. Meanwhile, her father expressed happiness on the development and applauded Radadiya's initiative.

Farmers fret over damaged crops, stagnant water in flood-hit Kashmir

Ganderbal, Sep 25 (ANI): Farmers remained the worst hit due to massive floods in Jammu and Kashmir as stagnant water in their agricultural fields damaged crops and affected the yield. Flood fury resulted in huge losses to life, property and economy of Kashmir. The worst flooding in the valley in 60 years submerged villages and ruined crops. The farmer added that the produce from damaged crops was only for consumption for three months as large chunks of land were washed away.
