Police seize 785 kilograms of marijuana in Maharashtra

Chaklamba, Nov 21 (ANI): Police seized about 785 kilograms of marijuana in Maharashtra. The seizure took place in Chaklamba village in Beed district of Maharashtra. The police were informed about the marijuana by locals. They first sent a team to confirm the news and finally busted the operation. Investigating officer, Dilip Tejankar said that there were three farmers from the same family who were growing marijuana along with cotton crops. Tejankar added that the farmers kept the height of the marijuana crop to the same level as that of cotton to hide it. Nov 21, 2014

Assam, Nov 17 (ANI): 35-year-old Prasanta Boruah ventured into citrus cultivation in 2006. In 2011, he attended a training program on drip irrigation at Assam Agriculture University and installed a mini drip in his 3 acre citrus farm with 50 per cent subsidy given by the government. Since then, his yield has increased and he earns handsomely now. Drip Irrigation is a method that delivers water to the crop by using a network of lines with emission points spaced along their length. It results in very high water application efficiency as the dripper supplies a controlled uniform application of water and other required growth substances. The Assam Agriculture University in Jorhat conducts training programmes for farmers and scientists of various Krishi Vigyan Kendras to give awareness about the advantages of drip irrigation. Farmers protest against unchanged prices of sugarcane in UP

Lucknow, Nov 15 (ANI): Farmers in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday burnt sugarcanes as they protested against the state government for keeping sugarcane state advised price (SAP) unchanged for third year in a row. The price decided by the government for the 2014-15 crushing season for the common variety of cane is at rupees 280 a quintal, for the early variety, rupees 290 a quintal and for rejected variety, rupees 275. The farmers said the government has further slashed the prices of sugarcanes, whereas they have been demanding price to be hiked to rupees 320-350 while the millers demanded the rollback of SAP to rupees 225 ($ 3.63) a quintal.
