Peace conference in South Africa called off as Dalai Lama rejected for visa, says Nobel laureate

Dharamsala, Oct 01 (ANI): The World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates was called-off after the laureates protested against South Africa's refusal to grant Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, visa for the event. Nobel Peace laureates, Jody Williams and Shirin Ebadi, who had boycotted the summit arrived in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday for 25th anniversary of conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize on the 14th Dalai Lama on October 2. Addressing a news briefing in Dharamsala, which is home to exiled Tibetans, Williams said the Nobel peace conference in Cape Town was cancelled. The event was scheduled to take place between October 13 and October 15. South Africa denied a visa to the Dalai Lama for the third time in five years, intensifying speculation about the extent of Beijing's sway over Pretoria. Oct 1, 2014

Washington DC, Sep 30 (ANI): In a rare gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama jointly visited the memorial of Martin Luther King in Washington DC. Both the leaders together paid homage to the statue of the leader of African-American Civil Rights Movement. Modi and Obama drove straight to the Memorial after their summit level talks at the White House. As per initial plan, Modi was to go alone to pay the homage but in last minute change American president also decided to join him. Rescue operations underway as death toll increases in Japan volcano

Japan, Sep 29 (ANI): According to Japanese media, rescuers have found at least five additional people in "cardiopulmonary arrest" at the summit of the Japanese volcano that erupted two days ago. At least 36 people are feared to have died after a Japanese volcano erupted without warning at the weekend, raining ash and stones on hikers. Rescuers at the peak of Mount Ontake found what may be five new victims of the Saturday eruption, which took place as the popular hiking site was packed with climbers, including children, admiring autumn foliage. Four people have been confirmed dead so far in Japan's first fatal volcanic eruption since 1991, and at least 60 have been injured. More than 500 searchers had been combing the summit. Helicopters lifted laden stretchers one by one from the mountain's summit even as the smell of sulphur strengthened at the peak, fanning fears of toxic fumes. Sep 29, 2014

India has been partner with Afghanistan since the overthrowing of Taliban regime in 2001. New Delhi, Sep 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday leaves for United States of America on his five-day official visit. Clad in his signature half-sleeved kurta and Nehru Jacket, Modi boarded the Air India flight and waved to the country as he left for his maiden US visit. Modi will address the UN General Assembly and also hold a summit meeting with US President Barack Obama which would see trade and investment high on the agenda. Modi and Obama would interact on September 29 and 30 in Washington, which would also see the US President hosting a dinner in honour of the Indian Prime Minister. PM Modi to inaugurate Global Investors Summit in MP on October 9

New Delhi, Sep 21 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Global Investors Summit organised by the state on October 9. The Summit is aimed at showcasing state as major investment destination for overseas and domestic industrialists. After the two leaders met in New Delhi, Modi also assured Chouhan that he would stay there for around three hours. He said the sectors like education, health, textile, automobiles and food processing will be focus of the summit. The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister disclosed that at least twenty nations have confirmed their participation in the summit.
