Vizag airport to operate flights from Friday

Visakhapatnam, Oct 16 (ANI): Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju conducted a survey of the airport in cyclone-hit Visakhapatnam on Thursday and confirmed operations to be resumed on Friday. Cyclone Hudhud has left a trail of destruction in Visakhapatnam and the residents are struggling to cope with the havoc as they are facing food, water and power shortages.Visakhapatnam's airport remained closed for commercial flights, after the roof of its main building was blown off by gusts of up to 195 kph. Gajapathi took stalk of the situation at the airport and said that Vizag being a key destination it’s important to make airport functional, therefore, Air India and other airlines will be resuming operations from Friday. PM Modi holds meet to review infrastructure sector progress

New Delhi, Sep 12 (ANI): Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on Friday reviewed progress of eight major infrastructure sectors in the country. The sectors included Civil Aviation, Ports and Inland Waterways, Railways, Roads, Telecom, Power, Coal, and New and Renewable Energy. The meet was a part of the regular series of reviews on infrastructure, which the prime minister takes every month. Modi stated that accelerated infrastructure development was his top priority, and also stressed the need for creating world-class infrastructure in India. The Prime Minister said initiatives undertaken by state governments as well as Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) with other countries, including SAARC countries, should also be taken into account while monitoring the progress of infrastructure sectors. Robert Vadra may lose airport security privilege, politicos react

New Delhi, Sep 10(ANI): According to reports Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju has asked the aviation officials to tone down the existing list of people exempt from the security checks at airports. Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has 30 people on the exempt list which begins with the President and goes up to special protection group protectees. The list also includes the Dalai Lama. The only individual listed in that list (on number 31) is Robert Vadra. It seems Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra may soon lose his exalted frisking privileges at the airports. Sep 10, 2014
