200 stranded Indian workers return home from war torn Iraq

New Delhi, July 6 (ANI): A group of 200 Indian workers, who were stranded in war torn Iraq, arrived in New Delhi on Sunday. An Indian worker, Upendra Singh, said that the situation in Iraq has worsened as conflict is going between Shiite and Sunni. Another worker Mohammed Alam complained that the company they worked for did not provide them any help to return back to the country. Alam further added that India embassy was helpful and provided them ticket ensuring their safe exit. Earlier on Saturday, 46 freed nurses, who were abducted by suspected Islamist militants in Iraq, also arrived home in Kochi city of Kerala. A group of 78 workers belonging to Andhra Pradesh also reached India. While many have returned to India, 40 Indian construction workers are reportedly still in captivity. Jul 6, 2014

The nationals flew back to India in the early hours of the day with the support of the embassy officials after they claimed that the companies they worked with refused to send them back. The workers heaved a sigh of relief and embraced their families waiting for them at the international airport in the national capital. They also said their friends and colleagues were still stuck in the turmoil-hit Iraq and the situation in Bagdhad was getting worse with each passing day.
