UP govt admits death of 34 children in Muzaffarnagar relief camps, draws protest

Lucknow/ Muzaffarnagar/ Varanasi, Dec 27 (ANI): Amid a raging controversy over numbar of deaths in Muzaffarnagar relief camps, Uttar Pradesh government has admitted that 34 children below the age of 15 died in the camps for the riot-hit victims. Forty-five people have died in the prosperous sugarcane district of Muzaffarnagar and surrounding areas since clashes erupted between Muslims and majority Hindu Jats. This was concluded in a report by a fact-finding committee of the state government. Earlier, Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had made a remark where he stated that those living in the relief camps are not riot victims, but conspirators and political activists planted by Congress party and the BJP. Muzaffarnagar, Dec 26 (ANI): Victims of the Muzaffarnagar riots lamented over the lack of basic amenities and criticized the state government for negligence as they languish in relief camps. Days after Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, visited the riot-hit district of Muzaffarnagar, the dwellers at the relief camps presented a picture contrary to what political leaders had said. Languishing in makeshift tents without proper facilities, the people are a dejected lot.
