FPCCI chief favours special trade status for India

New Delhi, Nov 4 (ANI): President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Zubair Ahmed Malik, has pitched for Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status for India and liberalized visa regime to boost bilateral trade. Malik said the focus is to improve trade between two neighbours. Trade has long been tied to political issues between the hostile neighbours. The MFN status would help normalize trade relations between the two nuclear-armed rivals by ending heavy restrictions on what India is allowed to export across the border. India-Bangladesh launch Joint Retreat Ceremony on eastern international border

West Bengal, Nov 07 (ANI): India and Bangladesh launched a Joint Retreat Ceremony at the Petrapole-Benapole border outpost at the eastern international border. Petrapole is located some 120-km north of Kolkata in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. Benapole is the Bangladeshi side of the border. The ceremony includes parades, march-past and lowering of the national flag of both the countries and will henceforth be a daily routine, at sundown, on the eastern border. Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who attended the Ceremony, said Bangladesh and India share the same culture and heritage and the Joint Retreat will help both countries strengthen their ties. Shinde also said taht India has already initiated steps to simplify visa rules for businessmen, students and those seeking medical treatment as well as signing of the Extradition treaties. US reiterates 'no change' in visa policy if Narendra Modi chose to reapply

New Delhi, Nov 6 (ANI): The US has reiterated its stand on its visa policy and said that BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi can reapply if he wants and wait for a review. US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf said that there has been no change in the visa policy and Modi is welcome to apply for the procedure and wait for any other applicant. According to reports, the Gujarat Chief Minister, was denied a diplomatic visa in 2005 and his existing tourist and business visa was revoked under the Immigration and Nationality Act that makes a foreign government official responsible for severe violations of religious freedom ineligible for a travel document. Harf denied having specific knowledge about whether Modi has applied to a US visa and said that visa application details are confidential. Nov 6, 2013
