Government to boost public spending on infrastructure

Chennai, Jan 19 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday (January 19) said that the government will increase public spending on infrastructure in months to come. The government estimates the country needs to spend $800 billion on infrastructure to grow seven percent per annum, sharply higher than around 5.5 percent projected by the Reserve Bank of India for the current fiscal year that ends in March. Addressing Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) summit in India's southern Chennai city, Jaitley said that the public spending on infrastructure would have to increase because the old Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) model was under stress and needed to be revived. Jaitley had promised imminent changes pushing ahead key reforms such as the introduction of a nationwide sales tax. Jan 19, 2015

In her address, Raje said that the competition should be in performance and in participation and the relationship between industry and governments now needs to be synergic, each complementing the other, for that alone is the way forward. Bhutan PM Tobgay visits Buddhist pilgrimage centre Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh

Sarnath, Jan 16 (ANI): Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay visited the Buddhist pilgrimage centre Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh on Friday. Tobgay visited Sarnath Archaeological Museum, which houses the findings and excavations at the archaeological site of Sarnath. The main attraction of the museum is Ashoka pillar which is the national emblem of India. Sarnath, located at about 10 km from Varanasi, is the place where Buddha chose to deliver his first sermon. Tobgay is on a nine-day official visit to India at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation. He had also participated in 'Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit' in Gandhinagar on Sunday. Ban, who is in India on a three-day visit, was the keynote speaker and the guest of honour at the investment summit, Vibrant Gujarat, in Prime Minister Narendra Modis home state of Gujarat. He met Swaraj and held discussions on peace and security, climate change reforms, and other important issues. He said India was among one of the largest contributors of the UN peace keeping operations. Opposition snubs Vibrant Gujarat Summit, says PM should focus on entire country

New Delhi/ Gandhinagar, Jan 12 (ANI): The opposition leaders on Monday (January 11) dismissed the on-going Vibrant Gujarat Summit-2015 as a gimmick and alleged that the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, was only concentrating on his native state instead of the entire country. Congress leader Manish Tewari said that the track record of Modi’s government showed that this government believed in creating hype and not doing actual work. NCP leader Tariq Anwar said that this effort on part of the prime minister would have been commendable had he been working to secure investment for the undeveloped parts of the country.
