Calais jungle: Refugees sew mouths shut to protest treatment

Refugees and migrants in France sewed their lips together in protest over their treatment in the Calais camp known as the jungle. Seven men, mostly from Iran, demonstrated in front of French police as the deconstruction of the shanty town in France continued after a judge upheld a government order last week to evict migrants living in the southern part of the camp. Refugee crisis: Clashes break out as authorities clear out Calais jungle

Clashes with police broke out on 29 February, as work got underway to clear part of the shanty town outside Calais in northern France where migrants are trying to reach Britain. Police fired tear gas around midday, about 150-200 migrants and activists threw stones, and three makeshift shelters were set ablaze, according to a photographer at the site. Mar 1, 2016
