New Delhi, Jan 9 (ANI) : Adding one cup of blueberries to your daily diet could help reduce blood pressure and arterial stiffness, both of which are linked to cardiovascular disease.Regular consumption of blueberries could potentially delay the progression of prehypertension to hypertension, therefore reducing cardiovascular disease risk.The findings suggest that the addition of a single food, blueberries, to the diet may mitigate the negative cardiovascular effects.The study also found that addition of blueberries in diet, increased the levels of nitric oxide, a blood biomarker known to be involved in the widening of blood vessels which is very important because arterial stiffness and the narrowing of blood vessels are both part of hypertension and this rise in nitric oxide helps in reduction of blood pressure. NDMC to distribute LED bulbs to its employees on Holi

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): The New Delhi Municipal Council which faced criticism for spending over Rs.90 lakh to give away sweets to its employees on Holi last year has decided to distribute LED bulbs this year keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for conservation of energy. NDMC chairperson Jalaj Shrivastava said that the council is also planning to halve the domestic energy consumption by the next financial year. Olympic medal winner Sushil Kumar and mountaineer Santosh Yadav will be the ambassadors in promoting the use of LED bulbs in the NDMC area. Jan 8, 2015

New Delhi, Jan 7 (ANI): A new study has revealed that eating whole grain foods can cut your risk of premature death by 9 percent and eating a small bowl of oatmeal may be the secret to a longer life. Whole grains may protect the heart by lowering blood sugar and insulin levels and this type of property could improve insulin resistance to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The study found that the folks who ate at least 33 grams of whole grains daily equivalent to a bowl of oatmeal-cut their risk of premature death by 9 percent compared to those who barely ate whole grains at all.
