Kollam, Aug 08 (ANI): A hospital is treating 80 students from two schools for respiratory problems after they complained of headache, nausea and vomiting following gas leak in a factory Kerala. Students were hospitalised after gas leak at Kerala Minerals and Metals Limited (KMML) factory in Chavara village in Kollam district of Kerala. The admitted students, from nearby Chavara Government Girls Higher Secondary School and a government college, suffered breathing problems and were vomiting after going to school. At least 70 students hospitalized after gas leak from Kerala factory

Kollam, Aug 07 (ANI): At least 70 students have been hospitalized in Kollam district of Kerala as a result of a gas leak from a mining company, Kerala Minerals and Metals Limited (KMML). The students complained of nausea, dizziness and some even puked and were rushed to a private hospital in Karunagapally. About 16 students are in the intensive care unit. The leaked gas is believed to be Sulphur Dioxide. Similar leaks have been reported from the unit earlier in 2007 and 2011. More details are awaited. Aug 7, 2014

Uttarakhand employs more women in tea garden

Nainital, Aug 03 (ANI): In a bid to empower women and make them independent, a state-run tea garden of Uttarakhand decided to raise women workforce in its tea gardens. The tea garden of Uttarakhand government in Ghorakhal region of Nainital district, employes mostly women, who do most of the work in the gardens, from plucking tea leaves, cutting branches to processing them in factory. A female worker, Jeewanti Devi, said salaries are given on time and they do not face any problems. There are 180 women employed in the government run plantations in the district.
