Police bomb disposal squad defuses bomb found from train

Kamrup, Nov 25 (ANI): A powerful bomb, weighing more than seven kg, was recovered from a train compartment in Assam's Kamrup (Rural) district on Monday, police said. Security personnel on duty in Up Lumding-Kamakhya Intercity Express spotted a plastic bag covered with a towel and wires sticking out in front of the compartment toilet near Kendukona Railway station under Rangiya sub-division. They immediately informed Kendukona station master and the train was halted there. The passengers were asked to disembark for checking the train thoroughly and senior police, civil and railway officials along with a dog squad of the Assam Police rushed to the spot and removed the bomb. Explosion in Assam kills one person, injures 16

Dibrugarh, Nov 24 (ANI): At least one person was killed and 16 others were injured after an explosion took place in Assam on Sunday evening. The blast took place in Rajgarh area of Dibrugarh district. The cause of the blast has not been ascertained so far. The injured were admitted in a local hospital where one person was declared brought dead. Police has launched a massive manhunt to nab the culprits. Nov 24, 2014

In Shillong, 5 day-long "Nongkrem Dance" a post harvest festival of the Khasi tribe was recently celebrated at the Iing Sad the royal palace of High Priestess of the state of Khyrim. New Delhi, Nov 19 (ANI): All Assam Students Union (AASU) demanded the implementation of Assam Accord, a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed back in 1985, to stop illegal immigrants into the state and faciliate governance. AASU adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya on Wednesday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to discuss the matter and laid down demands for the sealing of the India-Bangladesh border and detection of illegal immigrants among other things. He added Singh was aware that a proceeding regarding the Accord was on in the Supreme Court and they would require a month to fix a time frame for its implemention. Assam, Nov 17 (ANI): 35-year-old Prasanta Boruah ventured into citrus cultivation in 2006. In 2011, he attended a training program on drip irrigation at Assam Agriculture University and installed a mini drip in his 3 acre citrus farm with 50 per cent subsidy given by the government. Since then, his yield has increased and he earns handsomely now. Drip Irrigation is a method that delivers water to the crop by using a network of lines with emission points spaced along their length. It results in very high water application efficiency as the dripper supplies a controlled uniform application of water and other required growth substances. The Assam Agriculture University in Jorhat conducts training programmes for farmers and scientists of various Krishi Vigyan Kendras to give awareness about the advantages of drip irrigation. Held under the aegis of North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), under the Union Ministry of Culture at Shilpgram in Guwahati, it showcased the culture of eight northeastern states and Rajasthan. One among the major attractions of the event was Dhol-Dholak Cholom and Thang-Ta, the martial arts from Manipur. Artists from Garo community of Meghalaya stole the show with their spectacular display of the Wangala dance. Machil fake encounter case: Seven armymen sentenced to life imprisonment

Sopore, Nov 13 (ANI): The family members of the youths who were killed in a fake encounter in Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed satisfaction after the army on Thursday convicted seven men, including two officers and five soldiers, for their involvement in the case. In the 2010 Machil fake encounter case, three youths - Mohamad Shafi, Shehzad Ahmed and Riyaz Ahmed, were killed after being lured for jobs in Jammu and Kashmir, according to Ministry of Defence (MOD) sources. All the service benefits of the seven convicted armymen have also been suspended reportedly. Security forces had earlier claimed that they had killed three infiltrators and recovered five AK47 rifles, ammunition and Pakistani currency from them in the Machil sector. Nov 13, 2014
