Salman Khan and Nita Ambani kickstart a football movement

Salman Khan along with Nita Ambani came forward to support grassroots football movement. This programme will create a platform for the development of grassroots football activity and talent-scouting across the country. The ISL grassroots programme aims to reach out to a million young footballers in the first few years and expose them to the best practices in global football. In the first phase, the grassroots programmes will aim to reach out to 500,000 children through in-school and maidan initiatives, beginning early 2015. The outreach programmes will focus on introduction of kids to football, training and talent-scouting through a series of selection modules across the country. Foodies satiate taste buds at fest in Assam

Guwahati, Dec 05 (ANI): Food lovers throng annual Mongolian Food Festival, which is organised during the winters, in northeastern Assam state. Organised on the banks of River Brahmaputra, the 10-day long food fest in Guwahati city saw visitors enjoying varieties of food prepared by different tribes. People savoured dishes specific to Assam. Most of the tribes in Assam are of Mongolian origin. Some also have their origins in the Tibeto-Burman and South-East Asian regions. The organisers believe the traditions, culture and food practices of Mongolian-origin tribes are diminishing and such kinds of events will help people in promoting their food items. The tribal foods of the northeast were not that popular five to ten years ago but nowadays they have become an attraction among people. Apart from various delicacies, local rice beer was also served at most of the stalls, which is a traditional delicacy of the region. The festival, which began on November 30, will conclude on December 10. Dec 5, 2014

Agriculture sector in the Northeast to benefit from scientific practices

Assam, Dec 04 (ANI): Endowed with rich natural resources and suitable climatic conditions, the Northeast region provides a perfect environment for the cultivation of vegetables and fruits. While it has huge potential in horticulture production, the region has to depend on other states due to lack of good quality seedlings. In a move to be self-reliant, the first of its kind agri hub nursery was inaugurated at the horticulture farm on Assam Agriculture University campus in Jorhat. It has been developed at a cost of Rs. 15 crores financed under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana. The nursery will annually produce 48 lakhs seedlings of various vegetables and seasonal flowers. This new project will give a huge boost to production and ultimately help in generating more income for the farmers. Dec 4, 2014
