US attorney office confirms White House intruder had a knife

Washington, Sep 21 (ANI): According to US attorney’s office, Omar Gonzalez, the man arrested after climbing the fence at the White House was armed with a knife. Previously, the US Secret Service had said Gonzalez was unarmed. Gonzalez made his way into the executive mansion, though President Barack Obama and his family were not there. Gonzalez was charged with unlawfully entering a restricted building or grounds while carrying a “deadly or dangerous weapon”, according to an affidavit released by the US attorney’s office. New Delhi, Sept 19 (ANI): India, on Friday welcomed move by US President Barack Obama as he nominated former State Department official Richard Verma as US ambassador to India, just ahead of a visit to Washington by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Verma, an Indian-American, served as assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs at the State Department in the Obama administration from 2009 to 2011. He is currently a senior counselor at Steptoe and Johnson law firm and the Albright Stonebridge Group, a business advisory company, led by former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
