Siliguri /Guwahati, Dec 25 (ANI): In the backdrop of the militant attack in Assam, security was tightened in neighbouring city of Siliguri in West Bengal. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Alipurduar district, Akash Megharia, said extra personnel have been deployed at various check points as part of beefed up security. Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a high level meeting with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in Guwahati. Union Cabinet pays homage to Assam attack victims, Rajnath Singh to visit state

New Delhi, Dec 24 (ANI): Union Cabinet on Wednesday paid homage to victims of attacks at five different places in Assam wherein more than 40 people lost their lives. The cabinet ministers maintained silence for the lost souls and prayed for peace. Home Minister Rajnath Singh along with Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju announced that they would visit Assam this afternoon to take stock of the situation. Earlier, curfew has been imposed in parts of Assam after the attack by the suspected NDFB (Songbijit) militants. At least 40 killed in serial Bodo militant attack in Assam

Assam, Dec 24 (ANI): Suspected tribal militants killed at least 40 people, including women and children, in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts of Assam. Police suspect militants of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were behind four attacks that took place on Tuesday within the space of an hour. Formed in 1998, NDFB signed a ceasefire with the government in May 2005, but some of its factions continue to indulge in militancy. Villagers who fled the carnage told police that the rebels came on foot, armed with assault rifles and wearing military uniforms. They forced open the doors of their thatched huts and opened fire. Similarly, efforts are high on to improve the standard of football in schools. Recently, a 5-day long event was held in Imphal to sharpen the skills of under-17 girls as they participated in the 60th National School Games. Held under the aegis of Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur, 20 teams from various states participated in the championship at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium. Chirang, Dec 22 (ANI): Security forces killed two militants and rescued a kidnapped businessman in Assam. Two militants of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were killed in gun battle in Assam's Chirang district along Bhutan border.Security forces rescued an abducted trader from the militants. Following a tip-off, a joint team of army and police launched the operation at Chirang reserve forest area. The rescued trader was identified as Sushil Deb. Security forces recovered one M-16 rifle, one AK series rifle, one Insas rifle, two pistols, 552 rounds of live ammunition from the slain militants. Police said that a combing operation was launched by the specially trained commandos of army, paramilitary forces and Assam police against the NDFB militants in the bordering areas of Bhutan. Dibrugarh, Dec 21 (ANI): Four workers of a petrochemical factory, Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL), in Assam died due to suffocation after they went inside a tank filled with nitrogen gas. The incident took place when the workers shouted due to shortage of oxygen while working in the tank. The workers were taken to a nearby hospital where they were declared brought dead. The incident angered thousands of co-workers who vandalised the company’s premises and tried to set it on fire. Police tried to control the situation and resorted to baton charge. Guwahati, Dec 20 (ANI): A city court on Saturday remanded Burdwan blast accused Shahnoor Alam to 14 days judicial custody in Guwahati. He was allegedly the inancial brain of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terror group and was arrested by National Investigation Agency (NIA) with the help of central security agencies from Nalbari district of Assam on December 6.
