Need to get rid of 'financial untouchability' to save economy: Modi

New Delhi, Aug 28 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while launching the ambitious 'Pradhanmantri Jan Dhan Yojana', said that the scheme will help India get rid of 'financial untouchability'. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is an ambitious scheme, under which the government would provide every household with a bank account and an insurance cover. Under the banking scheme, account holders would get a debit card and accident insurance cover of up to 100,000 rupees ($1,654). They would also get an overdraft facility of up to 5,000 Indian rupees. The first phase of the mission, starting this month, would end in August next year. The second phase will start from 2015 till 2018, covering aspects such as micro insurance and pension schemes like 'Swavalamban'. Aug 28, 2014

While emphasising the importance for strong connectivity, Swaraj said there is a need to look at a more 'functional visa regime' in the 10-member grouping. She also stressed on the importance of connectivity for the growth of ASEAN. Indian men's hockey team returns home after winning silver at 2014 CWG

New Delhi, Aug 05 (ANI): Indian men's hockey team received a warm welcome on its arrival in New Delhi on Tuesday (August 05) after winning a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Glasgow. The Indian team lost 0-4 to title holders and world champions Australia in the finals. Captain of men's hockey team, Sardar Singh said the team is fully motivated for the future matches. In the last edition of Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in 2010, India had suffered 0-8 defeat at the hands of Australia. However, Indian women's hockey team that returned home on Monday, failed to bag any medal for the second consecutive year.
