South Sudan became the worlds newest nation after declaring independence from Sudan in 2011. However, in 2013 the country was plunged into civil war, as President Kiir – of the Dinka ethnic group – fired his deputy Riek Machar from the Nuer group and his cabinet. US Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in London to talk about Syria. He is meeting his counterparts from Germany, France and the UK to share “fresh ideas”.On Saturday, he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and ministers from Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.Kerry hopes the talks will lead to a ceasefire in the Syrian civil war.
