Alipurduar, Jan 06 (ANI): Police in West Bengal produced two militants in court after speculations of their possible links to guerilla attacks, which left at least 80 dead last month in Assam, surfaced. The two suspects belonging to the tribal militant group National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were nabbed late Sunday evening from a bus stop in Alipurduar district of West Bengal, which borders Assam. Police said the two suspects were produced in the court from where they were taken back to Assam on transit remand. According to Jaswal, the suspects identified as Ganga Basamatari (29) and Sajid Narjenari (21), both residents of Assam, were trying to escape through West Bengal after the Indian army declared Operation All Out' to reportedly flush out militants belonging to the NDFB. Army intensifies operation to hunt down tribal guerillas in Assam

Kokrajhar, Jan 04 (ANI): Combing operations against the tribal militant group National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) are going on in full swing along India-Bhutan border in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of Assam. Army, police and paramilitary forces under the unified command structure are carrying out joint operations in the strong hold areas of tribal guerillas in the forest terrain. The massive patrolling along the India-Bhutan border areas has been intensified while the army is searching out militants hidden deep inside the Ripu and Chirang reserve forests in Kokrajhar and Aie-Valley division in Chirang district. The border in the two districts has also been sealed by the security forces as NDFB militants could sneak through border areas. India has sought help from Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh in an offensive against the militant group in Assam. Jan 4, 2015

New Delhi, Jan 04 (ANI): BJP on Sunday react as death toll in Assam violence rose to 81. The death toll rose after police on Saturday recovered the bodies of missing persons in Kokajhar district. Meanwhile, over 25,000 inmates of relief camps on Saturday left for their homes in violence-affected districts. BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao blamed the Assam government for not taking any action in the case and said that the incident was avoidable if the government had taken proper actions. But, the Mobile Medical Units under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) are reaching out to such remote villages. They organize free medical camps for the needy. Hundreds of people of different age groups queued up at the venue to avail a variety of facilities including general medical examination, ECG, Vision test and ear, Nose and throat check up. Free medicines were also given out to the people. In Tripura also, the security forces are taking a step forward to provide health facilities in remote areas. Secretary of Darjeeling wing ASEA committee, Trinath Murmu, said that they were demanding immediate action by the government to maintain peace in the region. Sonitpur, Dec 30 (ANI): Police in Assam arrested a suspect behind coordinated militant attacks on tea plantation workers and their families that killed at least 80 people, the deadliest in years. The suspect has been identified as Suklai Basumtari, who is accused of having links with National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB). Police believe that a faction of NDFB, fighting for a separate state for ethnic Bodos, was behind the attacks. Police arrested him from Biswanath Chariali town in Sonitpur district under operation named, 'All Out'. Meanwhile, several media groups appealed people to donate relief materials to victims in relief camps in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur. Kolkata, Dec 29 (ANI): People in Kolkata held a candlelight vigil to condemn militant attacks in Assam that left at least 80 dead. The candlelight demonstration was organised by Paschim Banga Rajya Pratibandhi Sammilani (PBRPS) a non-profit organisation working for specially-abled - to protest against militant attacks by tribal guerrillas early this week. The victims of the attacks were mostly tea-plantation workers from other parts of India. On Saturday, life returned back to normalcy as tea plantation workers in Assam returned to work. However, former Mayor of Kolkata, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, during the candlelight vigil said that in recent times this was one of the ghastly attacks on innocent people. Many visually-impaired and specially-abled people were also part of the protest. Sonitpur, Dec 28 (ANI): Life returned back to normalcy as tea plantation workers in Assam returned to work after at least 80 people were killed by a tribal militant group. Militants fighting for a separate homeland for indigenous Bodo tribesmen went on a killing spree in Assam on Tuesday, killing 80 people in four attacks in the space of an hour, the deadliest violence in months. Hundreds of plantation workers armed with spears and bows and arrows defied a curfew imposed in response to the rebel attacks and surrounded police stations in Sonitpur district, the area worst hit by the militant violence, saying authorities had failed to protect them. Sonitpur, Dec 28 (ANI): Administrative officials of Assam said with relief materials being provided to victims and army initiating operation in the woods, the overall situation is improving after a tribal militant group had shot dead at least 80 people in the state earlier this week. Political department's commissioner and secretary, Prateek Hajela and chief executive officer (CEO) of Assam state disaster management authority P.K. Tiwary, during a news conference, said total 81 relief camps have been set up across the state and over 101000 people have taken shelter in the camps.
