Kashmir, Aug 12 (ANI): The socio-cultural ethos of Kashmir or Kashmiriyat is steeped in a tradition of religious tolerance, social harmony and brotherhood. It was influenced by the advent of Sufism in Kashmir in early 14th century. Sufi saints were both popular and influential because they identified themselves with established traditions and never opposed the blending of different religious customs, practices and beliefs. As a result, they attracted many followers. Even today, several Sufi shrines dot the state, drawing people from different religions in large numbers. New Delhi, Aug 08 (ANI): Talking about the decision by the US President Barack Obama to authorize airstrikes in Northern Iraq, Defence Expert Uday Bhaskar said that this is a welcome step. He said that the decision also involves religion in the sense that the Iraqi militants are killing Christians and are targeting non-Muslims, which very well justifies the term 'genocide' used by Obama. FDI in railways and defence draws mixed reactions

New Delhi, Aug 07 (ANI): Expert and political leaders on Thursday said that central government's move to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in railways and defence sectors would not give private sector much control, adding it was not fit for citizens of the country. The cabinet approved a plan to raise the amount of FDI allowed in its defence and railways industries, part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to attract more foreign cash and revive the economy. The government is to increase the foreign investment limit in the defence industry to 49 percent from 26 percent. Defence expert, Commodore (retired) Uday Bhaskar, said with 49 percent, bigger companies won't get much control. Meanwhile, BSP chief Mayawati, said the BJP should hold a discussion on the matter.
