Rangpur, Nov 18: A peace rally organized by “Anwesha Shanskriti Songothan”, a social organization, was attended by over five thousand freedom fighters and scholars from eight district of Rangpur division. Saddened by frequent strikes and violence by Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance, the freedom fighters called for peaceful elections ahead. They also called for a ban on radical outfits like the Jamaat-e-Islami, which was against the creation of the country and still continues with its violent ways. The rebels swooped down on the village when the villagers where enjoying a cultural night. Villagers from the neighbouring villages were also present at the cultural event when the group of Maoists started firing indiscriminately. Hundreds of people lose their life in the violence, perpetrated by the rebels. The Maoist insurgents are estimated to number between 7000 hardcore fighters in nearly a third of India's 630 districts. On Monday, the Indian Army had recovered a large haul of sophisticated arms and ammunition after a search operation on the disputed border in Kashmir, following gun battles with infiltrators from Pakistan for nearly 14 days.
