Sikh Indian players asked to remove turbans in China

New Delhi, July 23 (ANI): In a shocking incident during the Asian Basketball Championship in Wuhan, China last week, two Sikh players from the Indian Basketball team were asked to remove their turbans. The match officials informed the players that they were violating International Basketball federation rules and can't play with the turbans. Players Amrit Pal Singh and Amjyot Singh had to play the remainder of the tournament without their turbans. Speaking on the same, Former Sports Minister, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa on Wednesday said that remove turban is a big insult in their religion. London's heritage art gallery pays homage to World War I Sikh soldiers

London, July 19 (ANI): The UK Punjab Heritage Association (UKPHA) paid homage to World War I Sikh soldiers through an art exhibition organized in London commemorating their remarkable but largely forgotten contribution. The story of Sikh soldiers volunteered in World War I (WWI) is being showcased through original artefacts that include unpublished photographs, drawings, newspapers, comics, postcards, stunning works of art, uniforms, gallantry medals, and folk songs sung by the wives left at home. The exhibition titled “Empire, Faith and War: The Sikhs and World War One” is being held at the Brunei Gallery in London. Project Historian of the UK Punjab Heritage Association, Parmjit Singh, said the exhibition puts together the tales of Sikhs soldiers who fought in Great War and the stories of families they left behind. New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): All 11 convicted in the 1993 Surat bomb blast case have been acquitted by the Supreme Court on Friday. Petitioner lawyer said that a two-judge bench of Justice TS Thakur and Justice C Nagappam not only acquitted all the 11 accused but also reversed a TADA court verdict that had sentenced them to jail from 10 to 20 years. The two blasts had taken place in January 1993 in Varachha area and on the platform number one of Surat railway station during the communal riots that broke out after the demolition of Babri Masjid. Haryana Assembly passes bill for separate SGPC

Chandigarh, July 12 (ANI): Haryana government passed a bill in state assembly to create an independent committee to monitor Sikh temples, or gurdwaras, in the state. Haryana Chief Minsiter, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said the decision to create a separate Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for Haryana was accepted by the ruling Congress party in the state and was introduced in the assembly. New Delhi, July 07 (ANI): 116 Indian workers who were till now caught up in the war torn Iraq arrived home on Monday, while many others are still being held captive by the suspected militants.
