Colombo, Nov 16 (ANI): Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid has said he is disappointed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh couldn’t visit Jaffna, epicentre of the civil war in Sri Lanka. Singh skipped CHOGM summit in Sri Lanka, after many political parties and some ministers advocated a thorough boycott by the PM to visit Colombo, over alleged war atrocities of the Sri Lankan Army in its war against the Tamil Tigers. Sri Lanka is hosting CHOGM from November 15 to 17. Khurshid enlisted relief and rehabilitation work undertaken by New Delhi. Khurshid urged Colombo to resolve the human rights issues. Nov 16, 2013

Mumbai building fire kills four

Mumbai, Nov 11 (ANI): A seven-storey Slum Rehabilitation Area (SRA) building in Vikhroli area of Mumbai caught fire in the early hours of Monday killing four people and injuring atleast 10 others. As per officials, the fire erupted at around 2:30 at night in a meter cabin of the building, and is said to have spread through a wire in there. Four fire engines, four tankers and an ambulance reached the spot and the fire has been put out. Rescue operations are on at the site and injured have already been admitted to different government hospitals. Nov 11, 2013

Patna, Oct 27 (ANI): After a series of crude bombs exploded in Patna city of Bihar, the satte Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that there was no intelligence input for the same and that this is totally against the culture of Bihar. He also announced the compensation of 5 lakhs for the dead and proper treatment for the injured. Kumar also assured the opposition BJP that even when there are tensions between the two parties, such incidents are highly condemnable and said that there was no lapse in security system. Medical negligence case: SC orders Kolkata's AMRI hospital to pay Rs 5.96 cr

New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday awarded Rs 5.96 crore as compensation to be paid by Kolkata-based AMRI Hospital and three doctors to a US-based Indian-origin doctor for medical negligence, which led to the death of his wife in 1998. The apex court asked the hospital and the doctors to pay the amount within eight weeks to Kunal Saha. This is the highest compensation ever paid in a medical negligence case in India. Oct 24, 2013

Jairam Ramesh lauds new Land Acquisition Act

Chennai, Oct 16 (ANI): Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday lauded the new land acquisition act as it guarantees fair compensation to the farmers, apart from making rehabilitation easy for those who were rendered landless. The new Land Acquisition Bill, which would come into effect from January 1, 2013. Ramesh while addressing a news conference in Chennai said that the priority of the new act was fair compensation and transparency. Ramesh also said that it would benefit the farmers.
