Gujarat prepares for cyclone Nilofar

Gujarat, Oct 29 (ANI): As cyclone Nilofar is expected to hit Gujarat coast in a couple of days, authorities have intensified relief and rescue arrangements as precautionary measures to handle the cyclonic storm. Nilofar, classified as a 'very severe cyclonic storm', is expected to weaken to a 'cyclonic storm'when it makes landfall on the Gujarat coast, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Chief Minister of Gujarat, Anandiben Patel, said bad weather and heavy rainfall has been predicted for coastal regions on October 30-31. On Monday Gujarat weather office issued a high alert on the cyclone and said the storm has intensified turning into severe one. In the wake of the situation, Commander of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Rakesh Kumar Joon, said 60 NDRF teams have been deployed in the regions which are at high alert. The District Magistrate (Collector) of Gir Somnath district, CP Patel, has requested the tourists to return home while the fishermen have been called back from sea. Oct 29, 2014

Police arrest Maoist commander in Ranchi

Ranchi, Oct 14 (ANI): In a special operation Jharkhand police arrested a Maoist commander who was part of more than fifty militant activities in the region. The police received information that two Maoist groups would be meeting near the Joomla hill area in Ranchi on October 11. An operation was launched by the police and the area was surrounded. He added that around 75 mines had been recovered in the area along with arms and ammunition. Contingency plans ready to face cyclone, says Naveen Patnaik

Bhubaneshwar, Oct 8 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday said that all preparations have been done to meet any eventuality arising out of the possible cyclonic storm hitting the state's coast, and added that contingency plans are in place to face the situation. Meanwhile, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Commander M K Yadav informed that his team is ready for any challenge that may arise if the state is hit by cyclone. According to reports from the Meteorological Department, the state government has been informed that Cyclone Hudhud is heading toward north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha and is set to hit the coast by October 12.
