Justice R M Lodha sworn in as the 41st Chief Justice of India

New Delhi, April 27 (ANI): Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha was on Sunday sworn in as the Chief Justice of India. He was administered the oath of office by President Pranab Mukherjee. He is the 41st chief justice of India. Chief Justice Lodha succeeds Chief Justice P Sathasivam who demitted office on completion of his term Saturday. Lodha will preside over the Supreme Court for five months as his term will come to an end Sep 27, 2014. Justice Lodha is the senior-most judge after Justice Sathasivam and is also heading a benching monitoring CBI's probe into the sensitive coal blocks allocation scam. Also noteworthy was his important judgement on regulating sale of acid to prevent attacks and awarding of compensation to acid attack victims.

Lt. Governor announces compensation to Vasant Kunj slum residents

New Delhi, April 25 (ANI): Following a major fire in Vasant Kunj slum which burnt almost 1100 huts, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung visited the site and announced compensations to the aggrieved. He said that nearby SDMs should be deployed in the area and Jal Board to be alerted for more water in the region. He also announces establishing a kitchen and tents which will be up by the evening. Jung also announced 5 thousand compensation to those who lost their huts and 50,000 to those who are injured.

Govt takes stringent safety measures as Bangladesh marks first anniversary of 'Rana Plaza collapse'

Dhaka, April 25 (ANI): One year after Bangladesh's garment factory collapse that killed over 1,100, workers, manufacturers and exporters say the scenario has changed with government taking stringent safety and clearance measures. On April 24, 2013, the eight-storey Rana Plaza building in Savar, housing garment factories and shops collapsed. Managing Director of Evince group and former president of Bangladesh garment manufacturer and exporters association, Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez), said after deep introspection it was deduced that the disaster occurred due to lapses by several institutions. On Wednesday (April 23), protesters and family members of victims demanded compensation on the eve of the one year anniversary of the collapse of Rana Plaza.
