Tribals in Jharkhand launch anti liquor campaign

Lohardaga, Sep 22 (ANI): Hundreds of tribal women in a village of Lohardaga district of Jharkhand launched an anti liquor campaign on Monday to make their village hooch free. The women went on a rampage to destroy material used to produce country-made liquor in the villages. A tribal anti liquor activist, Malti Devi said that the campaign has been launched to make the state addiction free. Earlier, in a similar movement in 1991, women from the villages of Andhra Pradesh addressed the growing alcohol dependency among men and the consequent domestic abuse and squandered household income by staging protests aimed at forcing out local liquor traders. Health Minister praises Kerala CM for reducing liquor availability

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 19 (ANI): Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan praised Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Friday (September 19) for state government's decision to drastically reduce availability of liquor. Supreme Court of India on September 11 had asked the State government of Kerala to maintain status quo over banning liquor in the state. Vardhan was speaking at a function in Thiruvananthapuram city to declare the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) as the State Cancer Institute. He said saving people from alcohol and tobacco is a priority.
