Hostage video pleads with Afghan government not to execute prisoners

Caitlin Coleman and Joshua Boyle were kidnapped whilst on a hiking trip in Afghanistan in 2012. This is the first video released of them - Coleman is said to have now given birth twice in captivity. A Taliban source says the release of a video showing a US and a Canadian citizen held hostage by the Taliban is designed to pressure the Afghan government not to impose the death sentence on the son of a feared militant leader. Police investigation after four-year-old thrown off bridge into river

Two people reportedly received citations from police in Washington on 24 August, after a four-year-old was thrown off a bridge into a river. According to local reports, a woman described as the boys mother was cited for reckless endangerment and man was cited for the same as well as criminal trespassing. Apple faces €13bn tax penalty for receiving illegal state aid in Ireland

The European Commission alleges that that the US tech giant Apple received illegal state aid from Ireland. It now faces the largest tax penalty ever to be paid in Europe, €13bn (£11.1bn). The commission have claimed that the Irish government provided a deal to Apple in return for job creation in Ireland, which was unfair as it allowed Apple to pay less tax than rival firms.
