Pleasure boat crashes straight into Canary Wharf pier following fire

A pleasure boat drifted off course and crashed into the pier at Canary Wharf in London on 11 September. The BBC reported that the boat, carrying 151 people along the Thames, got into difficulty after its engine caught fire.Heavy smoke can be seen coming from the boat as it drifts towards the pier wall. The pier was closed shortly after to allow an evacuation of passengers. No injuries were reported. Sep 12, 2016

All tourists stranded overnight rescued from cable cars in French Alps

At least 33 tourists spent the night at an altitude of around 3,800m after the wires of their cables cars became tangled early in the evening above Mont Blanc. Helicopters managed to rescue the majority of people and delivered blankets and food to the remainder, whilst rescue workers stayed with them overnight. Sep 9, 2016

Disaster struck in September 2015 as two groups of pilgrims collided at a crossroads of two a narrow streets killing at least 2,426 people. There are various factors that affected the stampede including: pilgrims rushing to complete the time-sensitive rituals, heat and exhaustion, masses of people pushing in opposite directions, and confusion of first-timers. This hasnt been the only incident; hundreds of other pilgrims have been killed during the same ceremony in years past but 2015’s disaster was the deadliest at Mina since 1990 when 1,426 people died. This year Saudi Arabia have to step up security after Iran called its organisers incompetent. Iran, Saudi Arabia’s regional rival, blamed the disaster on organisers’ incompetence straining international relations. Sep 7, 2016

Afghanistan: Pamlarena siege ends in Kabul after suicide bombers kill 24

Three Taliban gunmen and one civilian have been killed Kabul in a 12 hour police siege marking the end of a day of carnage in which 24 more people were killed and more than 90 wounded in twin suicide attacks outside the Afghan Ministry of Defence. The siege followed three blasts in the capital in 24 hours, two have been claimed by the Taliban. Sep 6, 2016
