It was influenced by the advent of Sufism in Kashmir in early 14th century. Sufi saints were both popular and influential because they identified themselves with established traditions and never opposed the blending of different religious customs, practices and beliefs. As a result, they attracted many followers. Even today, several Sufi shrines dot the state, drawing people from different religions in large numbers. Srinagar, Aug 6 (ANI): The Amarnath Yatra entered its last leg as 'Chari Mubarak', the holy mace of Lord Shiva, today left for the 3,880 meter high holy cave shrine in south Kashmir. Meanwhile, lakhs of pilgrims have paid obeisance to the ice-lingam.The saffron-robed mace was taken from its 'Dashnami Akhara' abode at Budshah Chowk here to Pahalgam by a group of priests and pilgrims led by its custodian Mahant Deependra Giri. He has spent the last 34 years maintaining the premises of the shrine single-handedly, and promoting peace and harmony among Hindus and Muslims in the region. Amarnath Yatra spurs tourism in Kashmir as well

Srinagar, July 26 (ANI): The Hindu cave shrine of Amarnath, located in a Himalayan glacial valley, spurred tourism in Kashmir as pilgrims throng the mountainous terrain during the ongoing pilgrimage. The holy Amarnath cave is situated at a height of approximately 4,000 meters, which has four ice formations considered figurines of different Hindu gods. Amarnath is a 150 feet high and 90 feet long cave located nearly 145 km from summer capital, Srinagar. Pilgrims are not only going to the shrine, but are also coming in large numbers to take a trip of the valley and enjoy the picturesque views, grasp the freshness of the meadows, the hills and the rivers and to beat the heat. The Amaranth yatra started on June 28 this year and since then, famous tourist spots in the state, including summer capital Srinagar, Gulmarg district, Pahalgam, and Sonmarg have witnessed travellers from around the country.
